Cara Nicholson, MA, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor

Cara Nicholson is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. She earned her Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Governors State University, and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology also from Governors State University. Cara works with individuals, adolescents, couples, and families with a variety of issues including relationship distress, anxiety, depression, self-injury, sexuality, trauma, and general life adjustments. Above all, Cara believes in providing a safe space and a sense of understanding for her clients. She believes in instilling empowerment and hope, while maintaining a nonjudgmental presence. Cara utilizes elements of Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, and Family Systems to assist clients in reaching their various goals and gaining insight. The foundation of all of her work is empathy and a genuine care for each and every one of her clients.

Cara has a special place in her heart for teenagers and young adults. She is an adjunct at Governors State University in the Psychology and Counseling program, where she gets to practice her second passion, teaching. She also works as a personal support worker for teenagers with autism. Cara volunteers at Little Company of Mary Hospital for the Heart Connection program as a group facilitator for the teenage grief group.

Cara loves to travel, and has studied counseling in Thailand and Italy. She has a passion for music, movies, books, and photography. She enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and dog.
