Michael DeVries, Ph.D, Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Michael DeVries is a graduate of Trinity Christian College ’74 and received his Ph.D in Clinical Psychology from Duquesne University ’86. Dr. DeVries has been a licensed clinical psychologist in Illinois since 1988 and taught in the Psychology Department at Trinity Christian College from 1977-2016. He currently holds the position of professor of Psychology and Director of the Master Program in Counseling psychology at North Park University in Chicago. At North Park Dr. DeVries teaches and supervises interns in the Counseling Psychology program. He maintains a clinical practice and is co-owner of Olive Branch Counseling Associates, Inc. Prior to joining Olive Branch in 1998, Dr. DeVries serves as Director of Clinical Training at Chicago Christian Counseling Center in Orland Park, IL where he supervised doctoral and masters level therapists for many years.

In his clinical practice at Olive Branch Dr. DeVries specializes in working with older adults, marriage counseling, and individual therapy with adults. His approach to counseling integrates spiritual concerns, mindfulness techniques, and person-centered psychotherapy across a wide range of psychological issues including anxiety, loss, depression, interpersonal conflict and trauma. Dr. DeVries accepts insurance from many plans including Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United Health Care, Aetna, and Medicare.

In addition to his teaching and counseling practice, Dr. DeVries is married to Louella DeVries, has four grown children, loves to play tennis, golf, and pickelball, and serves as an elder at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago.
